Our first tip for furnishing your bedroom: Stick to the essentials! Bed, nightstand, and wardrobe are the basic essentials. Any additional furniture and larger items should ideally be placed elsewhere, as they only unnecessarily fill the space and can make a small bedroom feel cramped like a sardine tin. The lack of space can also affect your sleep and increase your stress levels.
In spacious bedrooms, you can place large wardrobes without any issues. Due to the large room area, they feel less bulky and not overwhelming. If you don't want to give up on a large wardrobe with plenty of storage space in a small bedroom, you can still avoid this typical bedroom furnishing mistake: Integrate your wardrobe discreetly into a niche or incorporate playful fronts as decorative elements. Both are wonderfully possible with a custom-made wardrobe. For example, you can also place a wardrobe with simple fronts and no handles along an entire wall, so that the piece of furniture almost looks like part of the wall.
Another great tip for furnishing your bedroom: Use the wall behind your bed for storage. This allows you to avoid bulky furniture in the rest of the room and maintain the spaciousness of the room.
Question: What doesn't belong in the bedroom? Answer: Clothes racks, ironing boards, binders, work equipment, desks, laptops, piles of laundry, sports equipment, vacuum cleaners, folding ladders, piles of suitcases... What items come to mind first when you think of your bedroom? Exactly, a typical bedroom furnishing mistake!
Especially in smaller apartments, the bedroom is often the only area that visitors don't enter. Do you remember as a child how you made things disappear in the wardrobe and under the bed? The motto was "Out of sight, out of mind," right? Many adults still do the same thing. Anything you don't want anyone to see ends up in the bedroom. If you're doing this, you're making one of the biggest furnishing mistakes in the bedroom.
